US-bound container rates hold near $7,800–$10,400 ahead of Golden Week
Shanghai–US rates stopped rising but stayed near 2026 highs in the week to September 24, while Asia–Europe rates fell. Drewry expects a dip around China's October 1–7 holiday, but US lanes may stay elevated through late October, which affects Q4 restocking for Amazon and cross-border sellers.
Container rates from China to the US stayed near their highest levels of the year in the last full week before China's National Day holiday. Drewry's World Container Index for September 24 put Shanghai–Los Angeles at $7,838 per 40ft container, up 2% on the week, and Shanghai–New York flat at $10,373. The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) published the same day was essentially unchanged at 3,686.62 points, ending an eight-week run of increases.
