Shopify opens market-driven shipping; mixed carts now pay the highest rate

Since Oct. 1, Shopify merchants can opt in to managing shipping rates by market, and new shops start there by default. Same-name rates now merge so a mixed cart pays only the highest one. Every qualified store must switch by July 1, 2027, so stores with several shipping profiles or shipping apps need to check their setup.

Shopify opened market-driven shipping to existing merchants on October 1, 2026. Merchants can now opt in from Settings > Shipping and delivery, and new shops are opted in automatically. The change moves shipping rates out of shipping profiles and into Markets. Shopify says it will become the default for all qualified merchants on July 1, 2027, with no opt-out after that date.
